After a sabbatical year and restored energy, I returned to the market with Pipefy, where I had a brief but impactful stint with nice challenges and an exciting team. Here, I'll briefly share some of the most relevant activities I undertook while working with Lumen, the company's design system.

Context

Pipefy is an automated workflow platform, ideal for managing various types of processes. It features an advanced web product and a mobile app with key functions.

The product design team was small and well-established, with members dedicated to research, writing, motion, and product designers. Initially, in the Lumen team, it was just me and a junior product designer, and we didn't have a dedicated developer.

My responsibility was to help develop a design system from scratch, assist in the junior product designer development, and contribute to connecting and maturing the product teams.

Legacy and its issues

We gathered all information about the old Lumen to identify successes and mistakes, providing insights for creating a new functional version.

The library contained non-agnostic and obsolete components with usability issues, incomplete documentation, a lack of clarity about its scope, and inconsistencies between Figma and Storybook. Additionally, the DS was focused only on the web product, neglecting the mobile.
